Bryan Anderson, chief operating officer at thread maker Coats Plc, is to retire from the board and leave the company at the end of the year.

The decision follows the sale of the Jaeger and Viyella divisions earlier this year. In a statement Coats said that because it now focuses exclusively on thread, there is no longer a requirement for a chief operating officer role as well as a chief executive.

It added that Bryan's decision to leave the company has been made for family reasons and after careful consideration of an alternative position within Coats.
