For the first time anywhere, a qualification in Footwear CAD/CAM can be gained on a new 12-week intensive course at the International School of Footwear at UK's Leicester College.

A ten workstation installation has been established at the college, complete with 3D digitiser and cutting table. Three of the world's major footwear software systems are available, Crispin, Shoemaster, and Procam.

The course leads to a Professional Development Certificate awarded by Edexel, a government funded association.

The next course commences in January and places are limited to ensure 100 per cent access to the workstations. Prospective students need some industry experience and a basic knowledge of pattern cutting.

The new course is in addition to the existing one-year diploma and two year higher diploma courses. These longer courses are more suited to industry entrants, the college said.

Details of the new course are available from: adt@leicestercollege.ac.uk.
