Outdoor apparel and products company Columbia Sportswear is expanding its global headquarters campus in Washington County, Oregon to give it more space to innovate, design and collaborate to create "high-quality products for active people."

The company has purchased three buildings from Electro Scientific Industries (ESI) in a US$33m deal, adding more than 200,000 square feet to Columbia's existing presence. All are located within a quarter of a mile from the main headquarters.

A spokesperson told just-style the HQ houses design, sales, e-commerce, merchandising and marketing for the Columbia brand, as well as executive and administrative departments for the Columbia Sportswear Company brands. Operations for Sorel will remain in downtown Portland; operations for Mountain Hardwear will remain in Richmond, California; and operations for PrAna will remain in Carlsbad, California.

Sales have continued to steadily rise for Columbia Sportswear, whose products are produced in more than 17 countries and sold all over the world. The most recent financial statement showed a 9% increase in net sales to US$526.2m for the second quarter ending 30 June. Net income surged 137% to $23m from $9.7m the year before.

Its last full-year results saw net sales jump 14% (13% constant-currency) to a record $2.802bn, with full year net income also reaching a record thanks a 155% hike to $268.3m.
