A working committee is being formed to try to speed up apparel exports from Bangladesh through monthly discussions between exporters, shipping agents and freight forwarders.

"We've taken the decision at a meeting of ready-made garment (RMG) exporters, shipping agents and freight forwarders to expedite the export process to protect national interests," Faruque Hassan, vice president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), told just-style.

The committee will include representatives from all trade promotion bodies, including the BGMEA, the International Container Shipping Association (ICSA) and the Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association (BAFFA).

Hasan Abdullah, chairman of BGMEA's Port and Shipping Committee, told just-style the shipping lines and freight forwarders will work to complete shipments by 18 August, ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.

"The working committee will be immediately constituted with all related trade bodies to sort out different issues and work out solutions to various problems mutually," Mr Hasan noted.
