Cone Denim, a unit of International Textile Group Inc (ITG), is planning to lay off about 150 workers at its White Oak plant in Greensboro in early December.

The company says the measures as necessary as US retailers are increasingly sourcing lower cost imported fabrics and garments.

At its peak, the plant employed 2,500 people, but following the layoffs will have around 550 workers.

Going forward, the company says it intends to focus the plant's production on higher-end premium denim products.
