Cotton yarn and garment manufacturer Southern Range Nyanza is undergoing a $17 million refurbishment that will enable it to produce quality cotton yarns for both local and export markets.

Speaking to Uganda Investment Authority executive director Dr Maggie Kigozi, Southern Range Nyanza managing director Viren Thakker, said the firm is spending $2.4 million on expanding the spinning department.

"We are planning to buy four new spinning machines with the latest technology and carry out an overhaul of the whole factory," he said.

The factory currently produces 4000 kg of yarn per day on 18 out-dated machines.
