Leisurewear giant Cotton Traders has reported the most successful Christmas trading period in its 18-year history with sales for the four weeks to 25 December up by 28 per cent on 2004.

The company says all areas of the business saw "incredible growth," with mail order up by 47 per cent, wholesale by 44 per cent and retail seeing an eight per cent increase.

Some 25 per cent of sales in the mail order sector were made online. In December 2004, 32 per cent of mail order turnover was made through the web compared to 25 per cent in December 2003.
