Nike has unveiled its new Mecurial Vapor SuperFly II football boot featuring a re-engineered upper.

Claiming to allow "explosive acceleration" from what it says is an "adaptive traction system," the boot also has studs that can extend and retract by up to 3mm.

Nike's sports research lab estimated that at the Germany World Cup finals in 2006, there were around 845 "slipping events" across 63 games.

Using the data, Nike collaborated with elite footballers such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexandre Pato to create the boot.
