The European unit of plastic clog maker Crocs has announced the startup of a Russian subsidiary in Moscow.

Netherlands-based Crocs Europe said it was the first step towards Crocs' expansion into Russia.

The new subsidiary of Crocs Europe will be called Crocs CIS LLC, and operate from an office recently opened in the Russian capital.

Dick Wijsman, managing director of Crocs Europe, said: "This is a great day for us. It is a highlight for Crocs' expansion into Russia, one of the world's most important markets of the future. This expansion will benefit consumers in Russia and I am sure this will make a difference to the Russian footwear market."

Last week Crocs launched a range of football licensed shoes with Premier League club Liverpool FC, based on its traditional Cayman style of shoe. The company is also believed to be linking up with Arsenal FC for a similiar deal for clogs incorporating the team colours and going on sale to fans.
