The Zimbabwean textile firm David Whitehead Limited has announced that it is to overhaul its spinning equipment in order to meet its rising customer demand.

In the company's annual shareholders report, managing director, Tim Cullen, said that the over-haul on its spinning equipment was needed as constant mechanical failures over the past year had meant too many work stoppages.

Cullen said: "We are currently over-hauling aspects of the equipment which should safeguard our ability to meet customer requirements. To enable us to compete in an ever more quality conscious market, replacement and upgrading of our drawing, spinning and winding plant is essential.

"Production capacities were stretched for the nine months to June and we frequently failed to supply our fabric division with their requirements," Cullen said. "Capacity utilisation declined over the months of July, August and September to 65 per cent."
