UK men are the biggest and tallest they have ever been, and are getting bigger, according to research released by Debenhams.

Demand for out sized clothing has increased by 126% in recent months, and has led the retailer to increase the size of men's tops from XXL to XXXXXL.

The maximum size for waistlines available in store is also increasing from 40 inches to 48 inches to cater for consumers' increasing girth.

The department store operator said it has seen a surge in men's height in recent years, with the average trouser sold now having a 34 inch inseam, compared to 32 inches in 2011, and the range is now available up to 36 inches.
