CAD/CAM software firm Delcam has bought the share capital of shoe industry systems supplier Crispin Systems.

Based in Desford, Leicestershire, 1986-founded Crispin specialises in software for designing, making and costing lasts, uppers and soles.

The purchase, which is Delcam's third within two years, is for an initial consideration of about GBP0.5m (US$0.97m) with a possible earn-out option, depending on performance.

After the transaction is completed, Delcam's footwear software operation will become the biggest worldwide supplier of specialist software to the shoe industry, with a customer base of 2,000 firms that include Nike, Dr Martens and Ecco.

Delcam managing director Hugh Humphreys said: "Crispin is a well managed business with an excellent reputation and product range.

"The addition of Crispin within the Delcam group gives us a leading position within the footwear industry on a global basis and in particular reinforces our strong position in the sports shoe sector."
