e and apparel giant Delta Mills Inc has revealed a massive factory modernisation program at its Estes Plant in Piedmont, South Carolina.

The cost of the revamp at the cotton weaving plant has not been disclosed but it includes new Picanol weaving technology, slasher upgrades, silo yarn system, cloth monitoring system and loom cleaning.

Bill Garrett, president and CEO commented: "I am pleased with the added flexibility and improved quality we will achieve with this project. This modernisation effort will enable Delta Mills to deliver a higher quality product to our customers.

"We expect to have this project completed by October of 2002. This is another step in our strategy to further reduce our costs."

Delta Woodside Industries Inc, headquartered in Greenville, employs around 1,700 people at its six plants located in North and South Carolina.
