Destination Maternity has eliminated the role of president as part of a streamlining process, resulting in the departure of Christopher Daniel.

The US maternity wear chain said the move is part of further efforts to streamline its operations and reporting structure. The company made the announcement as it revealed widened third-quarter losses and falling sales

As a result of the elimination of the role, chief executive Anthony Romano will assume the additional title of president.

He said: "While I am sorry to see Chris leave, the opportunity to flatten our organisation and streamline the merchandising decisions is an important step in our ongoing efforts to simplify our business model, improve efficiencies and make quicker decisions. I wish to thank Chris for his strong support during this past year and for his many contributions during his time with Destination Maternity."

In the third quarter, net losses amounted to US$1.3m from a net loss of $1.2m a year earlier, while total sales dropped to $119.5m from $125.1m.
