Department store retailer Dillard's has confirmed media reports that it is merging its merchandising division in St Louis with another in Little Rock, Arkansas, where the company is based.

The move, described as a "business decision," will affect more than 60 employees. It will leave Dillard's with four regional merchandise divisions in Phoenix, Tampa, Fort Worth, and Arkansas.

Earlier this month the retailer said it had nearly tripled its second quarter net profit to US$17.6m, thanks in part to a 5% increase in net retail sales. Meanwhile, comparable store sales were up 6% in the three months to 30 July.
