A promotional campaign is underway to acquaint the outside world with the fact that Columbia has the capacity to produce competitively priced ready-to-wear clothing in volume quantities and to the standards required by the most sophisticated importing nations.

Proexport, the Columbian government department backing the current campaign, points out that leading US designer label and branded clothing companies such as Ralph Lauren, Perry Ellis and Victoria's Secret already carry out much of their production in Colombia. They are able to take full advantage of the duty and quota free import facilities which trade with Colombia offers.

Proexport officials also believe that Colombian sub-contractors could have a lot to offer customers from the EU nations where their products have enjoyed zero quotas and duties for the past 10 years.
