US footwear and accessories retailer DSW has appointed Roger Rawlins as chief executive, succeeding the retiring Michael MacDonald.

Rawlins, currently chief innovation officer, will take up the role from 1 January. MacDonald will remain with the company through to the end of the year as part of a transition period. 

Prior to his current role, Rawlins served as executive vice president of omni-channel, senior vice president and general manager of and vice president of finance. Before to joining DSW in 2006, he served in leadership positions at HER Real Living and L Brands Inc.

“Over the past three years we have made significant strides in our evolution to a more customer-centric company, and today we have a strong platform in place,” said Jay Schottenstein, chairman of DSW's board of directors. “Notwithstanding the challenging retail environment, I am confident we have the right plan – and that Roger is the right leader – to continue executing our strategy to meet our customers' needs and deliver long-term value for our shareholders.”
