A new business leadership forum for the swim and active sportswear segments of the apparel industry is being launched by DuPont Textiles & Interiors (DTI) to replace its Lycra Rendez-Vous fabric fair which is being axed after 25 years.

The new event, called Lycra Rendez-Vous Symposium, will be held on 23-24 November in Monte Carlo and aims to provide participants with a unique global overview of these market sectors from fibre innovation to retailing, and an opportunity to jointly address the challenges of business growth.

Jon Penrice, global apparel marketing vice president, comments: “We have been reviewing the future of Lycra Rendez-Vous and concluded that it is time for change.

”The event in January this year attracted only 1,700 trade visitors compared to over 3,000 in 1999 – a reflection of regional shifts in manufacturing, emergence of new sourcing models, the efficiency of electronic systems, travel cutbacks and other factors that have generally impacted the relevance and appeal of traditional fabric fairs in Europe.

”We think we can offer our business partners more through sharing knowledge.”

The agenda of the Lycra Rendez-Vous Symposium will feature high level speakers from top brands and retailers and other influential industry and fashion experts. It will include panel discussions on a range of themes from textile and garment innovation to consumer lifestyle trends and supply chain management.

DTI intends it to be a unique opportunity for its partners to gain industry insight, as well as for corporate promotional activities and networking with key business leaders and specifiers in the swim and sportswear sectors.
