Danish footwear firm Ecco is investing in a second Thai production plant, according to reports in local press.

The company will spend THB285m (US$9m) on a new facility in Phichit province, according to the Bangkok Post.

This time last year Ecco invested THB350m on a new global distribution centre machinery at its existing Thai factory, in Ayutthaya.

Ecco was not available to comment when contacted by just-style today (29 June). However, Ecco Thailand managing director Kitti Chaiwattanatorn was quoted as saying the new plant would make uppers for shoes.

Chaiwattanatorn also told the Bangkok Post that sales of Ecco in Asia were growing by 40-50%.

Ecco reported in March that net profit soared to DKK489.m (US$87.7m) from DKK225.7m, with revenues including the sale of accessories and leather, as well as shoes.
