The Elder-Beerman Stores Corp has promoted Debra Edwards to senior vice president, sales promotion and marketing, reporting to Frederick Mershad, chairman and chief executive officer.

She replaces Timothy Worcester, who is retiring at the end of the August. Ms Edwards has been with Elder-Beerman since 1993. Most recently she reported to Mr Worcester as vice president and director of advertising.

Mr Mershad said: "Throughout her career at Elder-Beerman Debra has displayed the professionalism, dedication and ability to deliver results that we seek from our executive team. Debra and Tim have been able to communicate our value merchandising strategy to our customer while significantly reducing expenses, in keeping with our new strategic plan."

"We are sorry to see Tim retire," continued Mershad. "His skills and experience have been invaluable to Elder-Beerman as we developed and implemented our new strategic plan. Tim is an excellent team builder and has prepared Debra well to seamlessly take over his responsibilities."
