Fashion sector consultant Eric Musgrave has been named director general designate of the UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT), succeeding John Wilson when he retires next summer after 38 years with the industry's leading trade associations.

Musgrave will join UKFT, the body that represents the fashion and textile sector including major suppliers to high street retailers as well as leading brands, in January.

"I am absolutely delighted that Eric has taken this position," said Peter Lucas, chairman of UKFT.

"He will make a worthy successor to John, who has contributed so much to the industry and its associations during a long and distinguished career."

"This is a thrilling opportunity for me," said Musgrave, the former editorial director of trade publication Drapers.

"John Wilson and his team have done a fantastic job over the years in representing the interests of the industry and I intend to build on his legacy and take the sector forward as confidently and effectively as possible."

In addition, Adam Mansell, an executive at UKFT, has also been promoted to deputy director, positions also held by Elizabeth Fox and Paul Alger.
