Hope Brick has been appointed chief merchandising officer of Kellwood's women's wear unit Lifestyle Alliance, a newly created post where she will provide the leadership and oversight for the design, merchandising, marketing and category management functions for Kellwood's mainstream brands.

Brick joins the apparel maker from Wal-Mart, where she served as vice president of apparel, accessories, footwear design and managed the launch of the retailer's New York design office.

Brick has also previously held executive merchandising roles with three operating arms of May Department Stores including Robinsons May, May Department Stores International, and Foley's.

"Hope's comprehensive background in fashion trend direction and merchandising in the retail arena is a welcomed addition to our alliance," said Patrick J Burns, group president of The Lifestyle Alliance.

The Lifestyle Alliance is a division of Kellwood Company. The division consists of the women's mainstream brands, including Sag Harbor, Koret and Briggs New York.

Last month, Kellwood Company received an unsolicited buyout bid from private investment firm Sun Capital.

Sun Capital, which currently has a 9.9% stake in Kellwood and is its second largest shareholder, has offered US$21 per share for all the remaining shares it doesn't own.
