Former workers at a shuttered garment factory on the US Pacific territory of Saipan are suing for alleged labour abuses.

The 121 ex-employees filed a lawsuit on Thursday in the US District Court against La Mode Inc and Gold Apparel Brands Inc in Los Angeles.

The foreign workers from the Philippines, China, Thailand, Sri Lanka and South Korea claimed they were subjected to mass layoffs without prior notice.

They have asked the court to award them back pay, civil penalties, unpaid regular and overtime pay, damages and interest.

La Mode's garment factory on Saipan shut down April 25.
