Trade sources in Pakistan have revealed that they are expecting the European Union (EU) to remove quota restrictions from up to 65 categories of textile and clothing products.

Sources are hoping that the dropping of restrictions will come into place before the Multi-Fibre Agreement (MFA) is completely phased out from the country.

The move would mean the liberalisation of certain textile and clothing imports and with the third world countries on opening up the textile markets to more reciprocal trade.

However, before any agreement could be made, the EU would want ensure that the opening up of trade would not prevent the development of its own markets and would enable the EU textile trade to compete internationally.
