Even though half of Bangladesh was under water in July as the worst floods in 15 years took their toll, the country's knitwear exports grew almost 48 per cent to around $280m.

Also in July, exports of woven garments rose by 18 per cent to $402m, the state-run Export Promotion Bureau has reported.

However, exports are likely to fall in August and even longer as companies struggle to overcome the effects of the flooding.

Many textile factories were closed for weeks, and face problems with damaged equipment and raw materials.
