Three fabric manufacturing firms are hoping catch the eye of brands such as Nike, Adidas and Tommy Hilfiger when they exhibit at a major two-day textiles show in France.

William Clark and Sons, Elastic Knitting (NI), and Crepe Weavers have teamed up with designer Sharon Wauchob to create a range of original fabrics.

Operating under the Modern Nomad brand, the fabrics have been developed for the fast-growing global activewear market and will be on display to up to 10,000 visitors to the Tissu Premier exhibition in Lille this week.

Lawson McDonald, IDB's acting deputy chief executive, said: "We are backing this imaginative project because it involves the formation of a strategic alliance, the development of a new brand and the focus on unique and market-led products, which were three of the key recommendations in the Kurt Salmon Action Plan for the future of the local textiles and apparel industry."
