Textile and chemicals maker Milliken & Co is trimming its workforce by around 650 employees as it battles worsening economic conditions.

The company plans to spread the job cuts across its 47 worldwide plants.
 
Headquartered in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the privately held company has about 10,000 workers worldwide.

As well as carpets, automotive and industrial textiles it also makes knit and woven fabrics for apparel end uses.
