Japanese retailer Fast Retailing is to buy French apparel firm Petit Vehicule, owner of the Princesse tam.tam brand and the second-largest lingerie chain in France.

Petit Vehicule also designs, makes, retails and wholesales the Kookai Lingerie and Lulu Castagnette brands.

The acquisition is Fast's second  French buy over the last six months, following on from the purchase of Comptoir des Cotonniers in May.

Fast Retailing said it aims to further enhance the Princesse tam.tam brand in France as well as in selected other Europe countries.

The company said it would use the brand's retailing expertise and network in Europe to support Fast Retailing's expansion in the region, and share best practices and maximize operational and sourcing synergies with Comptoir des Cotonnier

1985-established Princesse tam.tam is a particular favourite among young women. There are currently 86 stores exclusively selling Princesse tam.tam lingerie in France, while product lines are also sold throughout high-street department stores in France as well as across Italy, Germany and the UK.

Fast Retailing operates the Uniqlo, Theory and Comptoir des Cotonniers brands. Casual clothing chain Uniqlo this week said same-store sales rose 12.8% during November, as the average customer number rose 7.5% and average customer spending grew 4.9%.
