Fabrics employing fibre optic technology made their debut as part of the collection shown by Corpo Nove at Pitti Filati after having been exhibited in prototype format at Avantex in May.

Originally intended for safety clothing, the interest these technically innovative fabrics has persuaded their creators that they could also have appeal within the fashion market, particularly for manufacturers servicing the novelty evening and clubwear sectors.

In the branded Luciferas range, each fibre optic thread emits light all along its length for ten hours at a time powered by a miniature, rechargable battery easily concealed within the structure of the garment. The plastic from which the fibre optic is made is flexible enough for figure hugging clubwear and workwear garments.
