Athletic shoe chain The Finish Line Inc on Monday announced a series of promotions aimed at strengthening its management team.

The Indianapolis-based operator of 500 stores said Jason Short and Mike Watson have been promoted to divisional merchandise manager of footwear, with Kathleen Kaplan promoted to divisional merchandise manager of apparel.

Short will oversee children's footwear, specialty, men's and women's running, technical tennis, walking and women's fitness, with Watson overseeing men's and women's basketball, boots, sandals, athletic casual and men's cross-training, and Kaplan overseeing all aspects of its apparel division including the private label division, branded and licensed.

All promotions are effective immediately and as a result of the restructuring, Tim Geis, senior vice president of merchandise, will add to his current responsibilities by overseeing all footwear and apparel buying.

"We expect the promotions and internal restructuring to benefit Finish Line," said Glenn Lyon, executive vice president and chief merchandise officer. "Jason, Mike and Kathleen have been leaders in the industry, and Tim is a great fit to lead them.

"With their combined knowledge and guidance along with teamwork and support of the footwear and apparel staffs, Finish Line should remain on top."
