Several events are set to converge on the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka in December, including the Second International Trade Expo for Building and Fire Safety.

The three-day Expo - which took place for the first time in February - showcases the latest products and services in building and fire safety, including fire-fighting, electrical and structural safety equipment.

It is organised by Elevate Limited, the company leading the factory inspection and remediation efforts for the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety, along with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

Being held from 7-9 December at the Banga Bandhu Convention Center in Dhaka, highlights will include the latest products in fire protection such as fire suppression equipment; sprinkler technology and how garment factories in Bangladesh are installing sprinklers to save lives and protect property; and equipment demonstrations.

Also taking place on 9 December at the same venue is the American Apparel and Footwear Association's (AAFA) International Product Safety & Environmental Compliance Conference.

The line-up will include a keynote address by Daniel Mozena, US Ambassador to Bangladesh, with speakers from H&M, Knights Apparel, Li & Fung Limited, and VF Corporation.

Topics on the agenda include: what factories need to know to comply with product safety and chemical regulations in the United States and Europe; how factories address testing failures and non-compliant products; what factories can do to adopt and comply with restricted substances lists from brands, retailers, and regulators; and how a factory can design and implement a successful worker health and safety programme.
