The Turkish Exporters Assembly has revealed that Turkey's sock exports increased by 10 per cent in the first six months of 2005.

Turkey earned US$352 million from sock exports during the January-June period the trade group said. Export figures show that overseas sales of Turkish socks generated US$318 million in the first half of last year.

The sock industry's share of Turkey's total knitwear exports rose from 10 per cent to 11 per cent this year.

The majority of sock sales were to European countries including the UK, Germany and France. The UK was the biggest market, with sales of US$99.1 million, up 5 per cent on the same period last year. Next were Germany at US$79 million (up 11 per cent) and France with US$32.6 million (an increase of 10 per cent).
