A flagship Vivienne Westwood store featuring a wide range of fashions from the famous catwalk designer opened in Manchester yesterday.

Called World of Westwood, the huge store is located in a former bank building at Spring Gardens in the city and has been designed to resemble a Paris salon with gilded ceilings, mahogany panelling, mosaic floors and circular rooms with curved doors.

Billed as having the fullest range of Westwood stock outside of London, it will stock Westwood's trademark outfits of figure-hugging suits, tight bodices and bustle skirts, with separate floors for women's and men's wear as well as a wedding section.

Items in the Gold, Red, and Anglomania ranges will be available, along with vintage pieces from the Westwood archive and a arange of outfits bought from auction houses over the years.

World of Westwood is the latest phase of a global expansion plan which has seen new stores open in Seoul and Moscow this year.

Carlo D' Amario, managing director of Vivienne Westwood Ltd, said: "The brand goes from strength to strength, with continued expansion projected. In addition to entrances in Russia and a second store in Korea this year, the following years see planned stores in Milan and Los Angeles."
