Brazil's shoe exports from January to September grew by 18 per cent over the same period last year according to preliminary figures released by Brazilian Footwear Association, Abicalçados.

Abicalçados revealed that exports for the nine months were $1.346 billion, up from $1.145bn in 2003.

It predicts that the sector could finish the year with export revenues of $1.8bn.

In September, Brazil's shoe exports generated $151 million - an increase of 20 per cent on the $126m recorded in the same month last year.

Exports to the UK between January and September increased 32 per cent to $82.3m. Exports to Spain rose by116 per cent, and to Germany by 43 per cent.
