Bargain hunters in Japan will soon be able to snap up new shoes for as little as $1.50 a pair after shoe chain Chiyoda Cohas teamed up with Hiraki Co to produce cheap footwear.

The new line will feature trainers and women’s and children’s shoes priced from $1.50 to $10 a pair with the first shoes going on sales at Chiyoda’s 680 Tokyo Shoe Distribution Centre outlets from Spring next year.

Chiyoda already produces a range of inexpensive shoes but by having footwear made at Hiraki's manufacturing partners in China can boost profit margins even further.
