Women's footwear retailer Daphne International Holdings has reported double-digit same-store sales growth during its first-quarter trading update.

For the three months ended 31 March, the Chinese footwear retailer said same-store sales were up 22%. This was attributed to the low base of the corresponding period last year and recently bolstered marketing and promotion activities.

The group saw intense sales promotions in the ladies' footwear market during the
period. This, together with rising rental and labour costs, has put mounting pressure on profit margins, the company said.

However, management is stepping up efforts to enhance operational efficiency and cost control.
