Lifestyle retailer American Eagle Outfitters Inc has appointed two ex-Abercrombie & Fitch executives to head design and development of its new retail concept.

Michele Donnan Martin, who from 1992 until 1999 served as vice president, general merchandising manager of the women's and girls' divisions at Abercrombie & Fitch, has been named as chief designer and general merchandise manager of women's.

Donnan Martin will be directly responsible for women's product design and marketing.

Charles Martin, who served as vice president, general merchandise manager of men's, boy's and new businesses at Abercrombie & Fitch between 1992 and 1999, is taking the position of chief designer of men's at the new concept. Martin will oversee men's product design.

President and vice chairman of American Eagle, Roger Markfield, said that the two new executives were "a powerful team", and had proven success in launching and developing a strong lifestyle brand.

American Eagle Outfitters sells its own brand of casual clothing for 15 to 25-year-olds in its 849 stores throughout the US, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
