Stritzke will take up his new role as CEO of REI next month

Former Coach president and chief operating officer Jerry Stritzke has been named chief executive officer of outdoor gear and apparel retailer REI (Recreational Equipment Inc).

Joining REI next month, Stritzke replaces former president and CEO Sally Jewell, who left in April. The company operates 130 retail stores in 32 states, and e-commerce websites.

REI said Stritzke has deep experience in retail operations, the building of lifestyle brands and all aspects of product development and the product supply chain.

Board chair John Hamlin said: "Jerry brings to REI an outstanding record of success in all aspects of specialty retail, particularly brand building, operations, and customer insights. He possesses strategic vision, he knows how to foster a high-performing executive team, and he has proven skills in navigating the disruptive forces that have become the norm in today's business world."

Prior to upscale footwear, handbag and accessories retailer Coach, Stritzke held various roles at La Senza owner Limited Brands (now known as L Brands). These included senior vice president of operations, as well as co-leader and COO of the Victoria's Secret brand.
