Kellwood's Fritzi California division has announced its latest contribution to the children's apparel market with the launch of Jolt, a new denim division for girls.

The new Jolt range will be available from January 8, 2001 and will provide a new range of novelty denim separates for young girls sizes 7-16.

The collection will be available through department and specialty store channels as well as selected junior catalogue retailers, with first deliveries being scheduled for June 2001 in time for back-to-school.

"We can't wait to introduce Jolt to our customers," said Jill Schleisman, merchandiser/designer for the division. "We've taken the number one silhouette in girls' denim and added glitter and shine with coated denim, lurex yarn dye treatments and foil printed textures.

"Different styles feature embroidery, appliqued objects, beading, studs and rhinestones. Belted looks are also important to many of the groups, and we are excited about offering chain belts as well as faux leather styles," she added.

No stranger to the jeans business, Schleisman's background includes designing numerous private label denim collections for the Limited and Express, where she has spent the past six years. She joined the team at Fritzi in August 2000 to develop the new division.

"In the girls market, we are currently seeing a shift in retailers' open-to-buy toward more fashion-driven jeanswear offerings, thus providing the perfect opportunity for Jolt.

"The entire collection is junior driven, yet understandable to girls. Since younger girls look to what the older girls are wearing, we can give them what they want. More importantly, we have the fresh design and merchandising talent of a new division backed by the strong production base of Fritzi and our parent, Kellwood," Schleisman added.
