Fruit of the Loom is to close its Jerzees de Choloma facility in Central America, which employs 800 people.

The company will permanently close the Honduras-based plant within the next few months.

Company officials said that the decision to close the facility resulted from a shift in product demand, and the ongoing consolidation of Fruit of the Loom and Russell Corporation manufacturing. Russell Corp was acquired by Fruit of the Loom in 2006.

Fruit of the Loom has vowed to work with employees to ensure they receive all legally required benefits and to identify potential job opportunities at other company facilities, it said.
