Hundreds of textile workers at Fruit of the Loom's factory in Donegal began a series of one day strikes on Thursday.

Up to three quarters of the 400 employees at the Buncranna plant failed to turn up today in a protest over changes to their working conditions which they claim will affect their pay packet.

Officials from union SIPTU said the strike is the first official industrial action to hit the production facility since it opened 17 years ago and called on management to resolve the issue quickly.
