Functional garment textiles, non-wovens, digital printing and effect finishing will all be showcased at the Texprocess and Techtextil trade fairs next May.

To be held in Frankfurt from 9-12 May, the sequence of the fairs for processing textiles and flexible materials has now changed and will take place from Tuesday to Friday, with registration now open.

Techtextil will focus on functional textiles and non-wovens, from smart textiles, via wearables, to textile products for sport, medicine or hazard protection. It will again feature a comprehensive programme of events including expert lectures and discussions, in addition to insights into ideas and technical innovations in the sector. Also featuring will be the Techtextil Symposium, the Techtextil Innovation Award, and the 'Textile Structure for New Building' competition for students.

Texprocess, meanwhile, will highlight every stage of the textile production process, up to and including finishing. Particular emphasis will be given to digital printing for garment and functional textiles, one of the expanding technical-textile markets, and textile finishing.

It will also show effect finishing, the process by which textiles are made particularly resistant by subjecting them to a special surface treatment, such as a coating, or fitted with supplementary elements, such as LEDs.

"Functional textiles are already an everyday part of modern life," said Olaf Schmidt, VP of textiles and textile technology at Messe Frankfurt. "Finished with supplementary functions, these smart textiles are conquering a wide range of applications from automobile manufacturing to medicine."
