The private-equity arm of Boston-based investment firm Gordon Brothers Group has invested an undisclosed sum in Canadian men's wear retailer Grafton-Fraser Inc.

The funding will be used to facilitate the company's next wave of growth, including expanding its store base, the companies said in a statement.

Grafton-Fraser currently operates the Tip Top Tailors, Stonehouse, Grafton & Co, George Richards and Mr Big & Tall chains.

Glenn Stonehouse, Grafton-Fraser's chairman, chief executive officer and controlling shareholder for the past 13 years, is retaining a "significant" stake in the Toronto-based company and will continue to operations.

GB Merchant Partners' other investments include Andrew Marc, a designer and marketer of branded outerwear.
