Clothing chain Gadzooks Inc admitted on Tuesday it had been forced cut its second quarter forecast amid a sales slump this month.

The teen-oriented firm said in a statement same-store sales would fall around nine per cent this month to about $24 million and total sales to $76.1m-$76.8m. It had originally expected an increase in same-store sales.

The Texas-based retailer cited external factors such as "Florida's decision not to anniversary their sales-tax holiday and a change in Texas law generally providing for later openings of public schools compared to the prior year" for the sales slide.
