The Global Alliance for Fair Trade in Textiles and Clothing (GAFTT) says it will launch a petition for a fair textile trade system at the Council for Trade in Goods meeting of the World Trade Organisation in March.

The petition, which is backed by the US, Turkey and Mexico, comes after a recommendation at GAFTT'S International Textile Summit in January that a trade regulation system be created for all textile exporting countries.

GAFFT is currently pushing the US, the EU and Canada to use safeguard quotas against Chinese-made products in an attempt to stop China from gaining a bigger share of international trade now that WTO export quotas have expired.
