Specialty clothing retailer Gap Inc is investing US$35m to expand operations at its distribution centre in Gallatin, Tennessee, in a move that will help improve speed to market and create 90 jobs.

The Gallatin site, which is one of Gap's largest distribution centres, covers the southern region of the US for the Gap and Gap Outlet brands, as well as Banana Republic and Banana Republic Factory Stores and Old Navy.

Gap senior vice president of logistics Shawn Curran said: "We look forward to expanding our presence in Gallatin to continue to provide jobs and send product quickly and efficiently to our customers."

The company earlier this month raised its full-year earnings outlook after strong sales of summer merchandise at its Gap and Old Navy stores helped lift second-quarter profit by nearly 25%.
