Casual apparel giant Gap Inc on Monday revealed it had promoted Lee Bird to chief executive of its domestic GAP division from CFO at its Old Navy division.

The California-based operator of more than 4,200 stores said in a statement 38-year-old Bird will be replaced at Old Navy by 45-year-old Patti Johnson who will join it from department store operator Kohl's Corp.

Bird, who will report to Gap president Gary Muto, succeeds Ron Beegle, who is leaving the firm after seven years.

"Patti and Lee have the broad operating and financial management skills we need to continue our turnaround momentum at Old Navy and Gap, drive greater operating discipline and efficiency, and position the brands for sustainable growth," said Gap president and CEO Paul Pressler.

Kohl's said in a separate news release its financial organisation will report directly to Arlene Meier, the company's COO on an interim basis. Prior to becoming COO, Meier was Kohl's CFO.
