Casual clothing giant Gap Inc on Monday announced the appointment of Andrew Rolfe as president of its international division.

The California-based company said the 37-year-old will oversee hundreds of Gap stores in France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Japan, and be responsible for leading the company's international growth strategies.

Prior to joining Gap, Rolfe was chairman and CEO of Pret A Manger, a London-based food retailer with operations in the UK, New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

"We know our brands have global consumer appeal, and international expansion represents a clear, longer-term opportunity for our company," said president and CEO Paul Pressler.

"Andrew has proven leadership skills in strategically growing retail brands globally and serving customer needs across diverse international markets.

"Andrew and his team will be responsible for continuing to tailor our business to satisfy customer preferences in existing international markets, while also identifying the best ways to serve other customers around the world who want to shop Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic."
