India's ready-made garment exports to quota countries grew by another 13 per cent in October to $286.1 million according to the latest figures from the Apparel Export Promotion Council. In the same month last year, export value was $253.9 million.

In quantity terms, garment exports were 80.4 million pieces as against 71.2 million pieces in October 2001.

Exports to the US grew by 22.02 per cent in volume, but fell by 1.12 per cent in value terms.

The EU imported 8.15 per cent more garments in terms of quantity and 28.56 per cent in terms of value. Likewise, the volume of exports to Canada grew 17.5 per cent and 3.97 per cent in value.

Total exports during the first seven months of the current fiscal year now stand at 621.3 million pieces, up 12.35 per cent. Export value is up 15.22 per cent to $2.35 billion.
