Within the next few weeks, Wal-Mart Stores Inc will begin a trial roll-out of its the George clothing label in about 130 US stores.

The range, which was created by fashion retailer George Davis for the UK's Asda supermarket chain, has grown into the country's fifth largest clothing retailer, with sales of £600m. In the US, the clothing will sit in the mid-price range.

Wal-Mart, which which operates in nine countries and now owns both Asda and the George brand, is trying to bring the best concepts from each market to its other stores. Last month, the discount retailer said that in the second quarter George sales rose by a percentage in the low teens at UK stores open at least a year.

George Davies quit Asda in November last is now developing the Per Una collection for Marks & Spencer. This is expected to debut in 90 UK stores next month.
